Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the world.
My name is Yulia Abergel, and if I had to describe myself in a single sentence, I would say: I am a woman who believes that curiosity is the greatest gift you can give yourself — and that language is the key that unlocks it.
I am, first and foremost, a mother. Motherhood has taught me more about patience, wonder, and unconditional love than any book or degree ever could. It has also deepened my understanding of how children learn — how they absorb the world around them with an openness that we adults spend years trying to recapture.
I am also an independent feminist. To me, feminism is not a battle cry — it is a quiet, daily commitment to living fully and authentically, on my own terms. It means pursuing higher education not because it was expected, but because I was hungry for knowledge. It means building a career I am proud of, and raising a child who knows that a woman's potential has no ceiling.
What Drives Me
At the heart of everything I do is a love of learning and a deep desire to help others grow. Education is not a transaction — it is a relationship. When I stand in front of a classroom, whether it is a group of bright-eyed five-year-olds or a room full of adults taking their first steps in English, I am not simply delivering information. I am opening a door.
I hold a higher education degree, and I have spent years developing English language courses and teaching materials — including books designed specifically to make learning English accessible, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable. My courses and books are built on the belief that language learning should feel like an adventure, not a chore.
A Life Lived Widely
I am an optimist — not the naive kind, but the balanced kind. I have seen enough of the world to know that life is complicated, and I have learned to hold both its beauty and its difficulty with equal grace.
I love to travel. There is nothing quite like arriving in a new country, breathing different air, and discovering that the world is so much larger and more varied than you imagined. I am endlessly fascinated by different cultures, different ways of life, different ways of seeing. I do not just visit places — I try to understand them, to adapt, to learn something of the local language, to eat the food that locals eat, to ask the questions that tourists rarely think to ask.
When I am not teaching or travelling, you will likely find me outdoors — hiking, exploring, or simply sitting somewhere beautiful with an animal nearby. I have a soft spot for animals that borders on the irrational, and I am not remotely sorry about it.
Why This Journal
This blog is my space to think out loud — about language, about education, about the world, about the extraordinary ordinary moments that make a life worth living. I write for teachers, for parents, for learners, and for anyone who has ever felt the quiet thrill of understanding something new.
I am glad you are here. Pull up a chair, stay a while, and let us explore the language of learning together.
